IFC Gives Back to FSU

As we wrap up our exams and head home for the summer, the Student Foundation wants to bring light to the Interfraternity Council’s contributions to Florida State University this past April.

The 3rd Annual IFC Gives Back has been one to remember. After weeks of share it nights, fundraisers, and events IFC Gives Back has raised a grand total of $19,067.73 for the Student Foundation’s First Generation Family Grant Program and the Protect our Professors initiative. These initiatives both directly support efforts on our campus that will not only improve the student experience, but help improve the university’s national ranking.

The Student Foundation and Interfraternity Council (IFC) have been partnering for the Protect Our Professors campaign for the past three years.  Protect Our Professors was initiated by a driven and dedicated group of students, faculty, and administrators in the spring of 2009 due to an overwhelming economic crisis in the Florida Legislature that led to university budget cuts. These budget cuts were affecting academic areas of the university and Protect Our Professors provides stipends to professors who have lost funding for research and travel. The Student Foundation created the First Generation Family Grant Program and by using a matching grant from the state, doubles all funds donated. These funds go directly to the CARE Program at FSU, a program that helps first generation college students ease into the FSU experience.

When asked for a comment, IFC’s Administrative Vice President, Chris Miquel had nothing but positive things to say. “My experience with IFC Gives Back stems back to my freshman year, I was on the committee for the inaugural event and I knew from the start that this was a cause I wanted to be involved in,” said Miquel,  “I always saw so much potential in this cause and event. I am extremely proud that we were able to exceed not only last year’s goal, but also our own 2016 expectations by raising $4,000.00 more than anticipated! We are looking to continue that trend as the years follow.”

Evan Roman, Student Foundation 2015-2016 Chair, tells us, “ It has been a pleasure working with the Interfraternity Council this year and we want to thank IFC for their consistent support towards academic development and university advancement.” The partnership between the Interfraternity Council and the Student Foundation is one that is very unique; it establishes a culture of giving and scholarship among the student body and further implements the importance of giving back to your university and bringing those funds back to campus. “ I was not surprised by the results, the executive board put on an incredible event with due diligence in making sure the event was a success and I heard nothing but great feedback throughout. We look forward to this partnership in the future!”

The Interfraternity Council undeniably continues to show the large impacts it can make to Florida State University and the Student Foundation is very thankful for their partnership and dedication to improving our university.
